The cab must be raised to remove the retaining bolt for the lower lift cylinder pin. Once the cab is raised, remove the hydraulic lines on the lift cylinder (s). You will need 7/8"-1 .
John Deere demonstrates how easy it is to get under the E Series skid-steer cab and the wide-open engine compartment access. Raise the cab/ROPS up and look at the top steering plate on top of the hydraulic pumps, there should be two plates - one on top of each drive motor pump.

Remove one at a time and hold the cab down when removing the last bolt if the lift cylinders are in good condition. The lift cylinders will make lifting the cab very easy as it may try to rise on it's own once the last bolt is removed.
Here is a link I found to the Technical manual for the John Deere 240 and 250 Skid steers. I was excited to find this.
