The Kubota would be capable of traversing the slope a couple of times. Once it's gets worn down all bets are off. And I doubt I could actually do any work on the hill. Skid steers, especially tracked ones are also surprisingly effective at ground preparation, very quick and agile for material handling, and leave the site tidier than a wheeled machine. I am thinking of getting a JCB 8029 cts mini excavator and hauling it in my 7x12, 12,000 lbs dumptrailer. The excavator weight should not be a problem since it is under 7000 lbs. I am wondering whether the trailer is long enough to get the proper balance for tongue weight and if the machine should be backed on or driven foward.

I'm not trying to knock the BH especially if traveling is important, or a FEL is needed. A 19000lb excavator with 360 degree of rotation and tracks will get into more places and easily out work a BH of the same weight. A backhoe can cross wider trenches safer than a mini escavator. I don't think I'd even try with a mini, seems like asking for trouble. I'm not sure what you're saying about boulders though, I don't think I've ever seen a mini try to pick its .
